That’s a Wrap

What A Season It Was

I for one had no idea that the two teams in the World Series would be the White Sox and the Astros. This was an incredible year in the baseball world and an exciting one for me. The activity at MarlinsBaseball.com has continued to grow and prove there are many more Florida Marlin fans than many people think. I was able to share my thoughts on this forum as well which really made me look deeper into the games instead of just the boxscore. I enjoyed the game this year because we were able to pay attention to baseball and not all of the hoopla around someone breaking the home run record. At this point I refuse to speak about the controversy of steroids that brought the game down early on. There was just so much more to concentrate on than garbage like that…let’s move on. Only until the playoffs did I realize that not one pitcher in MLB have a no-hitter this year. Usually I pick up on that stuff, maybe I was just too involved with one club to take notice.

I’d like to extend a huge congrats to the Chicago White Sox on the series win. Again, whoda thunkit. I couln’t believe my O’s did as well as they did early on, but it was a typical ending as they fell with a thud and a big one at that. Still, it wasn’t as bad as the Fish not making a stronger run.

Thanks MLB for a great season.

I’d also like to announce that I’ll be working on a new website, blog andShowletter4_1
all, called SportCooks. I have a few ideas of what I will do with it, but all I can ask is to be patient as I try do put this thing together. It was originally supposed to be a show about sports and tailgating that my friend Jeff and I were going to host, probably on a PodCast or something. I was a bit troubled when my first baby, "SportsCook" (notice the slight change in spelling) was snatched up by someone trying to make a quick buck. I had that name since 2000 and the only reason I lost it was that a former aquaintance couldn’t be contacted to renew it. I tried some things with it but it really didn’t catch on, it was basically just for fun. I’m really going to concentrate on the new site though so I hope when it really goes live you all will enjoy it.

If you really want a laugh, check out my OLD SportsCook site that I made like 4 or five years ago. OK, no more laughing…seriously, you can stop, no really…..

Have a good week everyone.

Fish Blog

I Have Issues

Fish_blog_2But in other news, last nights game was amazing. Well, the first three innings and the last to be exact because that’s all I was able to catch. But it was enough for me as yet another World Series hero emerges in Scott Podsednik. I must admit, I am pulling for the Astros but I won’t be upset if the ChiSox win. Either way, it was one of those moments when you get goose bumps and look around for the highlights on the net to see it over and over.

It’s not like the Astros are playing horrible….this has been a great series so far. I most definetly don’t want to see a sweep and don’t think it will happen. At least the weather will be very domey down in Houston and we won’t have any rainouts.

Which brings me to another point….why aren’t all new stadiums built with retractable roofs? I mean, you get the sun when it’s sunny, and when it rains, you don’t get wet or stuck waiting around for it to hopefully stop. Now, I have never been to one of these stadiums, but from what I’ve seen on tv and such is that they are quite traditional, yet very modern. Do we get the same feel as an open air stadium….I’m not sure, someone will have to let me know until I get to one. One thing is for certain, the Florida Marlins need a new stadium with a retractable roof.

But that’s another issue.

Whoa.

Pujols….Serious Clutchness

PujolsAt first, I thought I was dreaming. I have a little cold working in my head so I decided to hit the NyQuil. That stuff just knocks me out no matter how hard I fight. So I close my eyes, open them really wide only for them to close again in seconds. The Astros, the team that I am going for btw, were leading and looked like they were poised to win. I just wanted to see the team rush the field so I tried to stay awake. My eyes felt like they had five pound weights on them. After a few sessions of going in and out of conciousness, there are two RedBirds on base with Pujols coming up. Now, it was possible but unlikely. Open….close….open….close….open…..BAM!!! I saw it come off his bat like a freaking rocket. I just couldn’t believe it. If that’s not the biggest clutch hit of his career, I don’t know what was. What really upset me was, that I now had to force myself awake to watch the end of the game to see if the Stros would come back. They didn’t, and even though I think I saw the end of the game, I’m not sure.

It’s all good though, just more baseball to watch for me!

World Series

I personally will enjoy whatever team makes it to the Series against the Sox. It’s something different than Yankees vs *insert team name here* that we have seen since like what 1996?

Enough for now, I need another NyQuil.

Off Season Action

A Little Food Fun

One of the topics I’ve decided to blog upon this offseason is ballpark food fromHot_dog_1
around the country. I think I’ll do a different ballpark once a week, more if I get the chance. I’ll also throw in a recipe or two when I can get my hands on them. I’d like to ask the readers that have been to a major league park to email me the local traditional fare to help keep this as real as can be. I think this will be a great way to keep things going around here.

So, I’m The Tastiest

And Proud Of It!

You know, when I first decided to start a blog here I wasn’t sure how it would go. I was just happy that I was able to get the "marlins.mlblogs.com" name! Well, after a full season of blogging it seems to be a success. Throughout the first part of the season, I was writing almost daily but in the second half I kind of slacked off. Mind you, I continued to watch the Marlins and listen to them with my subscription to MLB All Access. Trust me people, when you are a displaced fan…MLB.tv is like a gift from above.

The Award

So, I have the won the "Tastiest Blog" Award from the First Annual Bloggies. Even though I’m not sure what that means, I’m honored to be a part of this and to receive it. I’m glad that my blogs have been entertaining enough for people to take notice and enjoy it. I’d like to thank the folks that chose me to receive the award and those of you that came over to read what was on my mind. There are so many people all over the world that have blogs about many different subjects. But to have a forum like MLBlogs to post thoughts and ramblings, the potential audience that is there to view and comment on your posts is a wonderful thing. Yeah, it’s nice to just type away your thoughts on a certain subject, but if no one is reading them, it kind of takes away from the passion you put into it.

I never would have thought I would actually be blogging about anything….but since I decided to I’m glad I picked the one thing I know and love.

I look forward to writing more on the Fish and other subjects in the off season. It’s going to be a busy one for the Marlins so I’m sure I’ll have plenty to write about. I’d like to think that many of you MLBloggers will continue to post as well. I know that I enjoy reading a fellow fan’s thoughts about their teams and will continue to do so.

Thanks.

Let’s Go Fish in 2006!

Bell

One of the most interesting things at Citizens bank park is this moving bell after a win.
